Mussel Chowder

Kinda hard to cook in the rain. Kinda hard to do anything in the rain, really. I drove over to the Allison point area on the other side ofValdez bay and came across salmon trying to swim up into a drainage pipe. Crazy stuff. The salmon are everywhere now! Then I noticed a bunch of mussels on the rocks. I grabbed an empty can and started picking them. I got about 12 of them. Then I took ’em back and cleaned ’em up and later that afternoon I took the can of condensed clam chowder, added a can of mixed vegetables, and boiled those mussels in some water, then tossed them in with everything and added a pinch of old bay seasoning. Wowzer. That was delicious! Then later I though this is really freakin’ cool, I’m going to make myself a batch of mussel chowder! And I started wondering if you needed a license or something for that. So, I googled it and then came across something called paralytic shellfish toxin. Yay. Glad I consumed them /before/ I read this! LoL Otherwise, I would have been afraid to try them. Fortunately, they must have been free of the toxin, because I didn’t have any problems. 😉 All’s well that ends well!
